The St. Justin Martyr Avilas began this Lent with Stations of the Cross for Vocations following daily Mass on Thursday, March 6 led by Deacon Tim Shell. All parishioners were invited to join them for this ritual prayer. Gathering together during Lent, the Avilas participate in these special form of Stations which lift up prayers for the priesthood, diaconate and religious life. Since May of 1972, the Avilas are a formally organized and authorized diocesan group of men and women dedicated to making weekly Holy Hours of Prayer for those who are called to serve the church in the priesthood and religious life. We pray for vocations to this holy life and for those studying and discerning God’s call. We have chosen St. Teresa of Avila as our patroness in this work of prayer. The motto for the Avilas are St. Teresa words, 'There is but one road that leads to God and that is prayer. If anyone shows you another, you are being deceived.' Our Chapter of the Avilas meets the first Thursday of the Month for daily Mass and Rosary and Prayers following for Vocations. There are monthly sheets shared within the group to pray for current priests and those discerning the priesthood in the seminary. All are welcome to participate in this group.
